Male Hiker Found Deceased In Angeles National Forest

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST (CBSLA.com) — Officials said a hiker walking near Inspiration Point in the Angeles National Forest Sunday afternoon spotted the body of a man in a ravine below.

Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Air 5 Unit, located the deceased at approximately 1:20 p.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was air-lifted to Farnsworth Park in Altadena where the victim was examined by a member of the LA County Coroner’s office.

After a preliminary examination, the cause of death was listed as trauma sustained in a fall from the steep trail.

The man was a resident of Los Angeles. His name was withheld until next of kin could be notified.

I go to Inspiration point once in a while. I guess that the fall was from the Castle Canyon Trail because it has the steepest slopes. It never seemed particularly dangerous, but there are several places where a little inattention could have dire consequences.

Terribly sad in any case.

Shit.
He was an investigative writer and producer for KTTV FOX 11 News. That's one intense gig.
Some nice remembrances of him here. Seemed like a good man.
One of his friends said he was an avid hiker.
Sad story.
