Went up near Crystal Lake to a bit of rock I've had my eyes on for a while. There's a approach slab section lower in the canyon, and I figured I'd head up there today and fool around with some systems I was working on and get a better idea of the place.

Got to hang out on a ledge in the San Gabes, which is kinda weird in a way. I also saw a baby rattlesnake on a rock on the hike up, and a male tarantula crossing the road on the way home. That's about it. No beatings, no shootings, nothing exciting. Sorry folks.

So is that a fixed route, or did you place this pin (or anchor, or whatever the appropriate rock-climbing terminology is)? Cool pic either way.

I placed it, all of halfway in.

Seems the seams are actually filled with crappy rock, so you hafta clean the seam with a nut tool, then hammer in a pin, remove it, clean, and replace the pin. Otherwise, you only get it in partway and just push more loose crud further back between the two layers of good rock.
