Bighorn Sighting

I won't say too much about where I saw these since I understand that poaching can be a problem, but I saw these Bighorn Sheep somewhere in the back country of the San Gorgonio Wilderness recently. I suppose that they are all ewes, given the size (or lack thereof) and shape of their horns, although perhaps one is a juvenile male? I apologize for the lack of clarity, but I was shooting at maximum zoom. Note just how effective their natural camouflage is. I had a hard time seeing them except when they moved.

Great photos Jim! You must have had fun watching them. The camo is amazing on these guys (er...gals).

Those are neat pics. Getting a shot of wildlife not often seen is what keeps my camera handy.
BHS are in my top 5 of the things I look for but don't often see.

That's a really ewe's-less comment.

"You're right, Jim," he replied sheepishly. "Consider myself properly chastised and cowed. I promise not to horn in on your threads again."

With that, he fled the thread, taking it on the lam over to San Jac.

All kidding aside, (Gahhhh! sorry! ;) that was a treat for you to see and to share with us on the board. I agree with being circumspect about sharing critter sighting details (as well as favorite secret spots).

Thanks very much, and stay safe out there, Jim.

"Pink hotel, boutique, and a swinging hot spot" bowshot to Joni Mitchell..."my, what a lovely parking lot."

breaking my vow at the insistence of this little guy horning in; no doubt channeling Clever Hans (famous horse)

Are you trying to get my goat?

Hey, great pic. Feel free to horn in with pics like that any time. I am not a-noid. :)

Here's my best Bighorn pic to date, from May of this year, taken in Joshua Tree.

HJ, you can't fool me! I know where you took those photos. It was Griffith Park, right?
