Tommey and I did our first Sierra hike of the season. We were surprised at how little snow there was. We were planning to do Ritter and Banner Peak, but ran out of time because the road to Agnew Meadows was closed due to fallen trees. We had to walk an extra 8 miles up and down along that nasty paved road.
The route starts at Agnew Meadows at just under 8,000ft elevation. It winds 7 miles to Lake Ediza (9,200 ft), passing through Shadow lake(8,700 ft) along the way. From Lake Ediza its a LONG ~3.5 miles to the summit of Banner Peak (12936 ft) scrambling through gullies and up rocks.
We started at the road at 12:45am and reached Lake Ediza at sunrise
Alpenglow just above Lake Ediza
Lake Ediza was mostly frozen over, except for this little puddle where I was able to get a reflection of the Minarets
view north from summit of Banner Peak, the tall peak in the distance is Mt. Lyell
I decided to try out my new gopro helmet cam on the glissade down Banner Saddle
we didnt get back to the car until 12:10am the next day!
