I know I've seen them before... they've got hard scaled body section thingies... anyone know what this dude is?

I can't find my copy of Insects of the Los Angeles Basin. I've had it for almost 20 years, and now I'm annoyed... It seems like that is the local SG mountain glow worm that turns into a beetle.
