Devore camp to hwy 39?

Does anyone know if there is a trail or is it simply do-able to hike east from Devore campground to finally wind up at hwy 39/west fork?
I believe the only way to do that is go east from Devore along the river to the Shortcut/ Edison Road (2N23). Go south (uphill) to the Rincon Red Box Road, 2N241. Follow that road to the gate/road (2N252) that goes back down to the Cogswell Dam area. Take the pavement from Cogswell to West Fork.
It would be an Elwood or Zé-like hike, for sure!
