There are a lot of history threads out there, but though Id add a collection of photos to this thread...

Currently has 303 'San Gabriel Mountains' results of southernish territory....and goes wayyyy back....like when Eaton canyon 1878. The timeline tops out in the 1920s. The tagging of the photos is not perfect, so other searches will bring out more photos, such as 'Crystal Lake from Castle Craig Mountain,Cold Brook Camp 1910'

Some of those pics seem really cool from their description, but how do you look at them? Do you have to go in person?

Some look to be only in person, but most you click on the picture/thumbnail to the left of the title. That brings up an object record that you click the picture/thumbnail on that new tab and it brings up the full photo via popup.

There are also these online repositories of historical photographs. Very cool. I can spend hours looking through this stuff.
