Lewis Falls - Soldier Creek Trail: 15 May 2011 SUCCESS

Since Bichota Canyon was a no-go, we had to salvage a trip somewhere. Norm and I headed up to the Soldier Creek trailhead on Hwy 39 just before Falling Springs. The trailhead is not signed as such but there is this No Fires sign:
Two new cabins were present along the trail. The first cabin:
The trail follows Soldier Creek. Many waterfalls can be seen:
About halfway up - the trail is only half mile to the falls - the path gets somewhat more treacherous with lots of boulder and log-hopping and log-walking. It had just finished raining and the logs were slick! Thankfully, we left our poles behind because our hands were needed for holding onto rocks and branches
Just about the time you start thinking "where are those dang falls?" they showed up. The water was roaring!

It took us ~25 minutes to travel to the waterfall and that includes time looking for the trail and looking at cabin ruins. Round trip is 1 mile. Lewis Falls are well worth the trip. Get up there now to see them full strength.
