California Trails Day April 16

DATE: April 16, 2011, meet at 8:00 a.m., registration: 8:00 to 8:30 am

LOCATION: Meet at Redbox west parking lot

EVENT: The USDA Forest Service and associated LARRD volunteer organizations will
celebrate California Trails Day on April 16, 2011. The celebration will include 4-6 hours of trail
work on the Red Box Trail System.

DIRECTIONS: From 210 Fwy in La Canada, go west on 210 Fwy (7 mi), exit at Sunland Blvd and go east (right turn) to Ora Vista Ave. (6 blocks). Turn left (north) onto Ora Vista Avenue (beware of dips and sharp 90 deg turn). Proceed east 11.9 miles to Angeles Forest Highway, turn right and proceed 3.8 miles to Clear Creek. Turn left on Angeles Crest Highway and drive 4.6 miles to Red Box. Park in the east parking lot. ***Allow 45 minutes driving time from the 210 Fwy.*** Carpool if possible. Since this is a volunteer event, Adventure Passes aren't needed.

This event is organized by the volunteer groups of the Los Angeles River Ranger District. We will break for lunch and a short ceremony about California Trails Day at 1:00 PM in the Red Box parking lot. Activities will end at 3:30 PM. ***Actual work time will be only for a few hours, you can leave anytime.***

This activity is open to all volunteers, including sponsored groups. Those who are volunteering for trail work for the first time, please identify yourself to the registrar, so we can arrange for a Trail Boss to provide instruction and proper tools. Please bring your lunch and personal equipment listed below.

Personal Equipment to Wear while working:
Work gloves, work shoes, work clothes (long sleeve shirts and long pants), sun protection hat, hard-hat (if available), Ten Essentials (include a personal First Aid kit), Water (2 Qt's.), snacks.

Be prepared to hike about a mile and work until 12:30. Lunch will be at the Red Box parking
lot.
