Mt Lowe & Echo Mtn 04-07-11

Visibility was poor couldn't see more than a 100 ft the whole way up, and we got a 15 minute or so downpour but otherwise remained rain free.
We took the Sam Merrill trail up to echo then switched to the castle canyon trail up to inspiration point. Then took the east trail up to Lowe. Took the east trail down to the junction before Inspiration point and took Sam Merrill down to Echo.
We dipped under the cloud cover about a mile or so before reaching Echo mtn, and had some decent visibility for the way down.
I took my nephew who's visiting from washington with me for his first hike up there. He's 13 and in decent shape so he did great. We made it up and back in just over 7 hours, stopping to eat lunch at inspiration pt. and a break at echo and lowe to scarf some snacks.
