Baldy Ski Hut snow conditions

hi,
is ice axe and crampons still needed on the ski hut trail? anybody been there lately?

I would say yes, if you plan on going beyond the hut. I believe people have made it to the summit with less. Are you planning on going to the hut, or the summit?

at least to the hut .... and higher if my joints are not busted by then...

Here are some pics from an ascent during last weekend. Looks like there is still some snow below the hut.

I was also up there last weekend. The snow starts about 1/2 mile or so below the hut. Below that, it's completely clear of snow. I didn't use my crampons or ice axe at all below the hut (just used my trekking pole). I saw at least one guy who made the summit without crampons and ice axe and he took the summer trail along the west ridge. So you could do it, but personally, I wouldn't take the chance. Also keep in mind storms are rolling in this weekend so soon these current conditions won't apply anymore.
