Alpine Climbing soon... partners wanted!

Got two big objectives coming up soon. By soon, I mean whenever things consolidate nicely from this lovely storm we just got!

#1: Harwood Northeast Face, 560 meters or so

#2 Baden Powell Mine Gulch Direct Southeast Face, up to 1200 meters

Been frothing at the mouth for the past couple years hiking past Harwood's NEF... must be done.

Depending on conditions, either way Harwood won't take as long. BP via Mine Gulch should be a long day trip under most conditions.

Man, this looks crazy steep. Does something like this involve full-on ice climbing with protection and ropes and all that stuff?

Make sure you guys bring back lots of pictures and video.

Tylenol, I sent you an email. I should be good to go on Wednesday, if a little slow, as I'm sick.

Pilot, it's not super steep, typically less than 60 degrees. This route page is from our last route in the area. They should be somewhat similar, though BP's Mine Gulch will be around twice as long.

Forecast is 80 degrees and full sun exposure; probable rock showers developing by late morning.
Don't forget the helmet, body-armor and sunscreen.

Cows are home. Cows hope for colder weather, and I need to get rid of this cold/flu thing.

Thanks a lot, Paul! Good times. And the face there is really big, a few thousand feet outta nowhere.

Looks like conditions are thinning... getting ready for the spring.

Any ideas are welcome. North face of Baldy should be good to go for a while.

Do you have any routes in mind?

If it doesn't rain, I'll be in the Bowl again on Saturday. I am assuming it will be my last chance this winter.

I think I'm done with the bowl, after about 6 attempts and two climbs of it.

Got some fun stuff we can do from Stockton Flat/Lytle Creek area, since that gives direct access to the north side of everything, where the goods are currently located. Some beautiful stuff up there.

North Face of Baldy/W Baldy is a safe bet, since it'll be good to go for a while.

The north side still looks good, although I wonder about the snow quality. North of the Devils Backbone still has about 2 feet of snow. It's totally untouched and the slope angle isn't too bad. Looks like a 2000' climb from Stockton Flats.

That's like a bunnyhop in-a-pea patch for TDR, pilot.

He likes those ball-buster climbs more like that NE face of Harwood ..
see: http://www.summitpost.org/trip-report/3 ... Ridge.html

I'd wager Stockton-North Fork, Pine, Dawson to 10064 is more to his linkin' right about now.
Conditions are sehr gut!

:)

I've actually done a climb up to the DBB from Stockton Flat. I did not like it. It was shaded, and had up to probably 6-7ft (feet) of snow in the couloirs. No sun, no freeze-thaw cycle, meant snow the whole way and no ice/hard snow.

Here it be: http://www.summitpost.org/route/267019/ ... 3-AI2.html

The Northeast Face is one of my big goals, but I've got a bit burned out lately, but am feeling better. I'd like to go up, but not in a group larger than 3.

The north face of Baldy on the other hand, looks fun. Starting from down west of the Baldy/Dawson col at something around 8800ft, around 810m route up the NF to the summit of W Baldy.

Might do something this Thursday or Friday, probably Thursday. Depending on how conditions look, might do something on Mt Baldy starting from Cow Canyon, if anyone is interested in having a day out.
