what a photo! thank goodness they didn't kill him like the poor bear last year in Ojai. they shot him while he was up in a tree. very sad. nice to see Oxnard work to save the bear and relocate him instead of killing him. the Los Padres Forest is teeming with wildlife since there is little encroachment by man. they are bound to find their way into the 'burbs, so hopefully more cities will implement a safe and sane way to handle the visitors.

Hard to know what is right here. Usually bears are just looking for food or water. When Fish and game and police are called they have an obligation to puplic safety.
But I know they also have a minimum area of range per bear, and there reaches a point at which the wilderness can't support the numbers. A certain amount of thinning out might be in order. I hate to be the one to bring that up. Nice to see Oxnard working so hard to save this one though. 8)

standoff with a 200-pound black bear on the loose early Tuesday in a residential area of Oxnard after it scaled a tree and was shot with tranquilizer darts, authorities said.
How can you be in a standoff with a tranquilized bear? Well I too am glad they did not shoot it.

Guess it must be truly spring time, bears are out and about.
