Youngsters airlifted out of Porter Ranch canyon after hiking mishap

PORTER RANCH — Two young girls hiking in a canyon north of Porter Ranch this afternoon had some sort of mishap, and both youngsters were airlifted to safety, according to authorities.

The boy had a cell phone and called for help at 2:53 p.m. after his companion apparently took a fall, said Brian Humphrey of the city fire department.

The children were not certain of their location and were eventually located by 25 firefighters with help from two helicopter crews who hoisted the youths and a dog out of Aliso Canyon.

A condition report on the girl was not available, but she was not believed to be seriously hurt.
