Crap.
How the heck did that "carbuncle" survive? It's on stilts and the heat would have gone right under it.

Seems to be the end of an era in the Angles with most of the cold war structures from the Missile Bases gone
Wonder what will happen with the various facilities
Barley Flat = La County Sheriff AIR5 helibase
Mt Disappointment = Many Many transmitters and microwave relay stations
Mt Gleason = State Prison inmate fire fighter 'Camp Crews"
Hidden Spings Cafe
Newcomb Ranch
Chilo fire camp
Caltrans residences
Probably most cabins at Loomis Ranch
Who knows what else
The trails will need lots or rehab, the roads are gonna have problems for years to come
Federal Disaster Declaration?

This was posted a short time ago on the Foothills Forum
There maybe hope for newcombs yet
People may have confused Hidden Springs with Newcombs
"
There is differing information about Newcomb's but I got the below information from another forum from someone who is very tied to both Newcomb's and Mt. Waterman:

Here is what I am hearing. CalTrans gone. Chilao Visitor center gone. Christian camp gone. Newcomb's missed and survived. Go figure!
Also, Christian Camp is still there (just to the east of Newcomb's Ranch) and is being used as a base camp for firefighters with heavy equipment so this could be a bit of good news. Hopefully something can be salvaged in the end."

Not sure how authoritative this is (see below). Apparently the old ranger cabin that once was at West Fork CG is still at Chilao, unburned.

Great News!! Newcomb's Ranch survived the Station Fire
"Newcomb's survives!!"
Great news this morning via the Fullerton office of Angeles Crest Christian Camp.
Newcomb's Ranch is still standing and serving food and drinks to firefighters. Firefighters are currently setting backfires in the Devil's Canyon area to provide further protection.
Further, more than 300 firefighters are based at Christian Camp and working to protect the camps and creating firebreaks to stop the progression of the fire which is burning in the southern area of Chilao. Camp Eaton, Valcrest and the Horse Flats areas are safe.
The southeastern flank of the fire is burning in the San Gabriel Wilderness Area. This area has not burn since the 1920's. Look for the fire to chew through this brush and make its way east to Hwy. 39 near Crystal Lake and south towards foothills communities such as Sierra Madre Monrovia and Duarte.
Simply, these decades of fuel loading needed some sort of release and the Station Fire is now doing the cleansing which was long overdue.
** Just talk to a LAFD Paramedic (Station 81) who is providing on site first-aid at Christian Camp, who verify the above information. Great Thanks to all our Firefighters!!

Sorry for responding to an old post like this, but i want to confirm that Newcombs Ranch is still standing! The road has since also been completely opened.
The weather this weekend is going to be great. Feel free to check the webpage for local weather information or the live camera on Mt. Wilson

Thanks for the heads up...
But the Master Minds at the Forest Service have seen fit to keep most of the forest closed to hikers.
But thanks for hanging in there

Yeah glad you guys are still around.
Shame they aren't going to reopen Hidden Springs.
