I don't know, but I think if I broke an ankle, unless it was a compound fracture, I would be able limp and stumble out on my own accord. And if I had friends with me, I'm sure they could help me hobble out.
but to call in a helovac? Now thats a lot of tax payers money down the drain. I wonder what the cost difference is between 4 guys going in on foot patrol and along with the guys friends, carrying him out in a litre vs calling in a chopper.
In any case, at least he is safe now.

Which county has SAR jurisdiction on Baldy? Is there an agreement?

Split jurisdiction. Depends on which side of the county line it falls. East of the line: SB. West of the line: LA.

I suppose that means that the two counties are on the "cutting edge" of SAR?
