Looking for footwear durable enough to handle hiking / water

I'm looking for something like water shoes, that are durable enough to withstand the abuse of following a stream for several miles. Does anyone have any experience with shoes designed for severe "water hiking?"

I have been using Merrell WaterPro Maipo Water Shoes
They are similar to the discontinued La Sportiva Exum River Canyoneering Shoes
5.10 canyoneer II's are still available I'd get ½ size large than you normally use
Most if not all these water shoes are just that, they are not very good for hiking, I change shoes when I'm switching to water travel and switch back for hiking.
The Merrell Moab Ventilator Cross-Training Shoe, while not a "water shoe" drains well and holds up to water, they also have a pretty good grip in wet surfaces.
Cheers
Matt

Sorry,
Merrell WaterPro Maipo . I'm a big fan of my Merrell Hiking boots and would like to stick the the same brand.
