Iron Mountain #2 (not-so-big Iron): 12-15-2007

Headed up to Iron #2 on Saturday morning via Trail Canyon trail. Perfect weather for this 14 mile hike - no wind, clear skies, with temps in the mid 30's at the beginning and about 60 at the end. Started seeing patches of snow in the shade at about 4600' but the trail was completely clear.
Saw some very fresh mountain lion tracks on the final ridge up to the peak. I was clearly the 1st person up this ridge since it last rained - deer tracks, mountain lion tracks and then my boot tracks. I assumed (hoped) the cat was following the deer. I thought it was interesting that both animals stuck to the use trail very closely even though the ridge is pretty clear and open.
Only saw three other people and that was within 1 mile of the trail head on my way back down. They were 3 kids trying to get a look at the waterfall which was just a trickle.
