The forecast was correct.
There was rain at Manker and snow above the hut with everything possible in between. Lots of graupel and rime... whatever that is.
The wind was blowing hard.
Fresh snow above the hut that was accumulating fast, an inch or more in less than an hour, our footprints were disappearing in minutes. It was great and will be better.
No photos, too wet.

How was the Mt Baldy road? Any icy spots?

The road today (Sunday) was icy in the morning and wet in the afternoon. There was snow down to Shinn Road. Chain controls were in effect but most cars did not have them. CHIPS was on the road stopping cars going up but almost everyone was without chains. Not sure what that is about. We made Manker fine in the morning without chains. They plowed and sanded often.
The Mountain had lots of snow, above the ski hut were 18-20 inches of fresh powder, not that easy to walk, but quite beautiful and a blast to descend. Very few people were hiking, only saw one person above the rock garden. The bowl looked sketchy, lots of rocks showing.
My camera only worked part time too cold I guess.

Not sure, but I think "Mother Nature" made her move with a little more than a day left (Spring Equinox is at March 20, 1:14 A.M. EDT) in winter. How's that saying go, better late than never.
Eveyone break out their cold weather gear there's one last chance to play in the snow
Thanks old man winter for moving back into the state temporarily and getting your wife to drop some fun our way

It is fake. Either photoshop or someone had the wrong date on the camera and who knows when it was taken. They show you what they want you to believe. It is lies, all of it

Down to 6k on Saturday they're forecasting. No idea if any of it will stick.
My favorite time of year to hike usually right now. When it's not hot and the big mountains are not snowed in yet. But it hasn't stopped being hot and I've been fearing that it'll snow with no awesome fall hiking season at all. Grumble.

Lots and lots of rocks on Mt. Baldy Road this am, one spot before the tunnels had a pretty good slide completely blocking the uphill lane.

Nuts. Video wasn't available. Always enjoy seeing first of the season snow.
Had a nice little snowstorm up on Waterman a couple of weeks ago. Started at about 7 pm and kept up for a while. Man, that was something sweet to wake up to.
Maybe the El Nino talk isn't all crap.

Hey, I've got some people looking for snow this weekend. Like a light blanket of snow (snow shoe kind of thing). How far are we going to have to go to find it?
ANF is not really in blanket conditions and I heard Big Bear was spotty too. And I looked at a webcam for Frazier Park (this is obviously not scientific) and I didn't see much. So Sequoia you think maybe?

If you hike in a few miles you can find snow here in the San Bernardinos. But I think you mean you want to drive right up to the snow. If so, I wonder if Kennedy Meadows might be a good place to call. It's the closest high elevation road I can think of.

Excellent recommendation! I was thinking something similar. But if anyone has any other suggestions, or have personally seen a blanket of snow recently, let me know

So we got around this weekend and there really wasn't snow anywhere, not a blanket anyway. Kennedy Meadows was totally dry. I think there's snow further up Sherman Pass Road but the road was totally iced after that point and we didn't have chains.
We also went to Big Bear/San Bernardino this weekend, it had snow in patches. We hiked a little but not too much, you can see there's snow in the San Gorgonio Wilderness if you really hike into it.
Both places over the weekend were like constantly 34 degrees and raining. And was like come on, a couple degrees lower! But it never happened. Perpetually 34.
Both places were still lovely though
Just not very snowy!

Hey, after that little storm this week I was wondering if anyone knew if there was snow out there? It's been pretty warm since then. I was thinking of hiking Baden-Powell this weekend and I hike in non-waterproof five fingers. I can handle a certain amount of wetness, but I'm not up for a soaking.
I called the ranger and got 'I think it got some snow, but I think it's melted by now, I'm not really sure'.

There was snow on the south-facing slope for about a day. I bet there is some snow on the north side on the trail, though.
