3 Involved in Fiery Crash Near Glendora Mountain Road
http://glendora.patch.com/articles/3-in ... ntain-road
"The vehicle(Mini Cooper) carrying three passengers that went off of Glendora Ridge Road, seven miles west of Mt. Baldy Road, plunged between 400 and 600 feet before catching on fire and burning a half acre of brush early Thursday(June 23rd) morning....
Commentor:"...Then a black little car with a loud exhaust note, comes up..the driver telling us that a mini-cooper just went over the side, about 3 miles down the road. The towtruck driver, drives down the road to the next accident. Glen and I follow. We reach that site, and start yelling to see if anyone survived. As we listened, we see the yellow glow of fire. We hear faint yelling.hat tow driver..that man took a fire extinguisher, told us "I have to do something"..."I can't leave them there". I tell Glen I'm going back to Baldy to call 911. At that location..no cell phone service. I set my trip meter to zero, and ride. I get to where my cell gets out and make the call. I sit at the gate..and wait. Fire trucks..paramedics...show up, and I tell them it's 7.3 miles in. It's easily 2:30 AM. The crews start coming in, there's a helicopter in the night sky. Glen and I are there with our bikes parked at a lower turnout. The tow driver had got down there, used up his extinguisher, and was truly a hero. It was his quick action that saved lives that morning. I heard through Firemen, that the tow driver was over taken by the smoke"
Quiet Night(June 22nd - GMR)
http://glendoramtnroad.blogspot.com/201 ... night.html
"...nothing caught my eye until I saw the slew of emergency vehicles at the electronic sign. I stopped to take a picture then I saw a familiar figure amongst the police fire fighters and paramedics. Matt was walking around. I saw his bike parked in the guard rail. Man down! Ron and Matt had ridden together talking . Ron ran over the black base for the orange pilon. He nearly recovered from the unexpected bump but ended up crashing. He was in the ambulance. Around his nose was black and blue. Possibly collar bone and ribs broken. He requested to be taken to Pomona hospital....The fire fighters quizzed us on riding Glendora Mountain Road. Can' t you ride somewhere else?..."
Alleged Angeles Crest Road Rage Incident Involves Cyclists
http://arcadia.patch.com/articles/alleg ... cyclists-4
"...At 9:45 a.m. June 18 while deputies were responding to a separate call, they were flagged down by a group of cyclists riding along the Angeles Crest Highway. The cyclists alleged that a driver in a Nissan Xterra had driven next to them while they were cycling, slowed down and cursed at them....A witness alleged that he had seen the same driver move his car dangerously close to (other)cyclists while yelling at them....When deputies questioned Cox, he said that he was driving to work when he approached a pair of cyclists who he believed were in his lane and not being considerate of drivers. Cox said that he drove close to the right shoulder and yelled at them, and then encountered two more cyclists and attempted to confront them about their cycling manners, according to the report.Cox told deputies he stopped his car directly in front of the cyclists....Cox was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station."

Reefer Madness: Our National Forests Going To Pot
http://www.kcet.org/updaily/socal_focus ... 34616.html
"...By June, 2010 they already had pulled out and destroyed upwards of 96,000 plants, a cash crop worth an estimated $192 million. Then, in early July, US Department of Drug Enforcement agents teamed up with local forces on two major busts in the vicinity of Fish Canyon and Knapp Ranch. With police helicopters whirling overhead, the eradication teams weeded out more than 11,000 plants valued at $22 million. As with other such efforts, they also cleaned out almost a ton of trash, irrigation pipes, herbicides and chemical fertilizers, tools and other material the growers had used to manage their illegal crop.
Later that same month, the task force once again hit paydirt: after getting reports from hikers of suspicious activities in the forest, it sent three teams up a series of ridgelines and creekbeds, discovering 41 sites which were home to nearly 17,500 plants (street value: $35 million)...."

Concerns raised over proposed Assembly district
http://articles.lacanadaonline.com/2011 ... ra-olhasso
"A proposal by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission to include La Cañada Flintridge and neighboring Foothills communities in a new state Assembly District that would stretch all the way to San Bernardino County has sparked concerns....The proposed future San Gabriel Mountain Foothills District, which includes much of the Angeles National Forest, stretches much further east. In that district, La Cañada and La Crescenta would share representation with communities that include Altadena, Sierra Madre, Duarte, Azusa, Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and two San Bernardino County cities — Upland and Rancho Cucamonga, some 40 miles away.."
