Here is the story on the Backpacker website. Sam told me about his epic descent from Iron Mountain, which is mentioned in the article. I suspect he stayed overnight at or near Widman Ranch.

Baldora has a building that's maybe cabin-enough: walls and a roof. Could be there?

I don't know. I didn't think to get details at the time. And his journal entry isn't specific.
