Headed back a day early and well short of our mark. Next time ..
What!!!! Came back a day early and a dollar short? Errr, destination short? What happened? How far you get? The cabin? The switchbacks? The cutoff to Poopout? I'm jsut giving you a hard time.

You guys going to post a TR wiht lots of great pics? The snow looks awesome. Deep, but awesome. If you would have made it to Dollar, I don' tthink you would have made the peak. Insane.

Nice job either way. Lets get a few of us and do it in the next snow storm again!!!!!!!!! From Vivian Creek this time.

Curious if anyone knows current snow conditions at:

1. Josephine Peak -- a bunch of people are planning to snowshoe up there Saturday, 3/28. Is there any reason to take snowshoes?

2. Sunset Peak -- we're headed up 4/5 and I'm wondering if the snow is already gone? From OC it looks like the snow disappears around 8,000', at least on the southerly flanks.

Hi Edd,

I was up with HikeUp that day and seems there is some snow on the upper parts of the north face, hard to tell how much.

As for Josephine, I assumed that hike would not give much snowshoeing. The best I can report is from some photos from a hike around Lawlor and Barley Flats a month ago.

There was only a little bit of snow in parts from 5400 to 6000. I'd assume after a month (snow free?) that around Josephine, there wouldn't be much.

I was up on Josephine two weeks ago and there was only a little snow on the upper parts of the fire road. Outside of that, there was nothing.

I get a little sad this time of year.... knowing the snow is leaving us behind... there is something almost mystical about snow.

There is also something 'warm' about snow... it makes me think of a lot of fun times, especially renting cabins in Big Bear, building a fire, then going outside at night, smelling the crisp air and hearing that unforgettable 'crunching' sound when we'd walk on the snow...

Late October, early November can't come fast enough...

Damnit, I wish we'd get hammered with a ton of snow and super low temps. I want frozen waterfalls off West Fork!

dear weather god, please melt the snow enough so when I return from vacation, thy Bighorn ridge can shred me to pieces, but allow a reasonable descent to Manker Flats.

It was hot. I was on Baldy today.

Heat sucks. I'm very pale. I belong under a thick blanket of stratus clouds.

Go buy crampons. it's cheaper for you to buy $100 'pons than it is for me to move to a free state like Idaho.

I agree. Heat wave - go away. Ze, I got a pair of brand new crampons for you if you keep the heat away and snow here.

Cool! Maybe we'll get some precipitation and a good cold winter, both of which would help with the Pine Bark Beetle infestation (and it never hurts to have good fresh snow for us outdoors types). :)
