Vetter Mountain fire lookout just re-built this year, and it is in a lot of danger already.

I didnt mean to say they are on the 10 day forecast.....its just I think there is this traditional risk coming soon.
As far as which way, it depends which area. Front range, yes south. But mostly north in the forest by the current crest location. Heck in Tujunga , it did 30,000 acres in one day and that was north plus east AND west. And that was Sept 20s for the Station....although last year is was early Oct.

Looking at Buckhorn, it seems the camping area is holding up.

While we focus on our local Bobcat fire, the larger context deserves some mention. Smoke from numerous west coast fires has now reached the east coast and even parts of Europe.





With so many fires raging at once, and so many communities under threat of being burned, the firefighters are being stretched thin and worked to exhaustion. Without getting too political, I'm thankful for the brave men and women on the lines doing the hard jobs of keeping people and property as safe as possible, and I blame politicians and arsonists and careless firestarters more than climate change for the terrible scale of this destruction.

I blame the wood for being flammable.

I just heard that the fire is 500 ft of the Wilson towers. Firefighters are standing by to protect them

Yeah, they've been trying to keep it away from the summit since yesterday. I think it's slowly creeping around the sides.

Pleasant view ridge...west of Pallet to east east MtWilliamson....plus Buckhorn and Kratka ridge..then waiting in line to refill at Crystal Lake...isnt the lake low by now?

counted 13 aircraft working the fire on fr24 just now... crowded!
7 up at cooper canyon, the rest at a few spots on the southern side. from the perimeter line on caltopo (which i'm assuming is a little more accurate than the satellite dots?), the fire already made it down the (pretty steep) slope from the ridge north of cooper canyon, to little rock creek... hopefully they'll keep it from climbing back up to pleasant view ridge (seems to be what they're trying to do, from the air activity)

It's two or three miles from the Punchbowl and Juniper Hills. Winds expected to blow east and north tonight.

Hated hearing east but seeing this pic I cant think of only one word : horrendous if not a few explectives.. As the main fork reignited and passed Islip Saddle. The entire east under threat now...with ash falling in wrightwood.

But we'll see if it burns down to South Fork and then back up...but already reported north Islip also on fire.

Yeah, thats the 'PCT' trail up to Williamson(which its pretty much reached already) and down to South Fork, . Its just another spot fire on the evening update I would assume. The table mountain cam seems to be starting in vogue.....although right now it only shows this is not 'nothing' with a plume of smoke. Proably have to change the name from Curve fire redux to Islip misslip.

Edit: perhaps this was some defensive op, at least partly...idk...the fire going downhill looks like a controlled burn.

I guess you cant worry about it. Our mighty beloved fire ops from the computer up north got a plan of new dozer lines.
Glendora to South Hawkins is one...but remember very few resources...well now its fuel dryness record(false). I think the one on the left was mentioned in the update as Little Tujunga. Again, no problemo, no criticism.

Speaking of the somewhat larger context....its armchair 'officially' on for the Creek Fire. Its been progressing slow, but a lot of downhill now...16.5 miles, or 3 miles closer.
No criticism again..the tourists like it...they say it creates a unique experience with a nice sunset glow. And another favorite....the smoke is not that bad thanks to my covid face mask. All hail Newsome. We burn everything and then commit mass suicide for the utopian god climate change.

Yeah, once the fire gets going in a Wilderness area, there are no firebreaks to slow it down. Sometimes there's tree thinning on the ridges, but how long has it been since PVR was thinned?

There's probably some endangered hobo living back there in his own filth. They'll need to complete a dozen environmental impact studies before they can remove a single used condom or pink panty.

probly means pleasant view ridge is beyond saving. table mtn webcam shows an awful lot of smoke from that direction.

to the east, the curve fire scar extends about 3 miles e. of the fire, just below the 2, to about mt baden powell... beyond that, there is a lot of sheep mtn wilderness that hasn't burned in a long time

Smoke is still continuously pouring out of upper winter creek. Been that way all yesterday and today. Not sure there is anything left to burn down in there.
