I got one - I finally got one!!

This lovely feline enjoys solitude, moonlit walks on local trails, eating internal organs, and mortal combat with others of her species. She lives in or around Big Tujunga Canyon.

I screwed up! I thought the camera was set to video, but obviously it wasn't...won't make that mistake again!

Nice job! Cool pics.

Can you tell what time of day it was? She killed and ate another cat? Was there evidence of this in the area? Sorry for all the questions but this is really cool.

It was 6:45 at night. I was just trying to be funny - there was no evidence that she killed or fought anything - but they are extremely territorial, and the males definitely are known for killing other males, even their own offspring.

And the other question- the camera can be set to either take still pics or videos, yeah. But once you choose, it's set until you change it. I like videos better too! So that's why I'm kind of kicking myself. There's so much stuff to remember - I've forgotten the keys, or the cable lock, or fresh batteries sometimes - and that sucks.

I actually took this camera down today - before I knew I got the cougar. There's a remote control that does all the settings, and also tells you how much battery life you have left and how many times it triggered. It said it had taken 396 photos, and I didn't want to sit there and go through them all. The first 20 or so were ravens, so I figured I had picked a bad spot and took the thing down, planning to pick a new spot next weekend. Wasn't till I got home that I saw this - so now I have to go back.

I love questions! These shots made my day - I'm so excited. I've been doing this for about 8 months now, and this is the second mountain lion I've got - it's really really tough to find them. Thanks for looking!!

do you put a little roof over the camera in case it rains?
Do you have a sign under it that says "if you touch this camera it will blow up"?

supposedly it's weatherproof...

I actually don't worry about it getting stolen too much - cause I have a few videos of hikers who actually notice it, and all they do is look at it with confused expressions, and sometimes wave their hands at it like it's going to do something. pretty funny....

so if any of you come across it, smile and wave! or dress up like bigfoot - that would be good.

Sure - next weekend we're just setting one out again, which isn't nearly as much fun as checking one that's been out for a while and seeing what we got - but I'll keep you posted for the next time we do that.
