Road Repairs set to begin on the San Bernardino National Forest
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., October 3, 2008— The San Bernardino National Forest set to begin road repairs on several projects throughout the national forest, damaged during last winter’s storm. Visitors should exercise extreme caution in the construction zones, watch for heavy equipment operating in the area. Visitors also need to heed all posted signs, look for uneven surfaces and open trenches along the roadways in the construction zones.
Miller Canyon (2N37) near Lake Silverwood
Miller Canyon Road will be undergoing a major overhaul to deal with annual storm damage issues, and improve access for fire apparatus. The road will be subject to closures during portions of the work. Forest visitors will be able to detour around the project via Pilot Rock Road (2N33) and the Pilot Rock Ridge Road (2N36). Valley of the Moon Road (2N38) will be subject to intermittent closures. Road detour and closure signs will be in place during the project.
Upper Lytle Creek Divide Road (3N31Y) near Lone Pine Canyon
The Upper Lytle Creek Divide Road suffered a major washout on the road and has been closed to vehicles. Contractors will be repairing the washout and making improvements to the road drainage system along the route.
Splinter's Cabin Road (3N34C) near Lake Arrowhead
Significant rainfall and run off in Little Bear Creek has damaged the road crossing on the popular Splinter’s Cabin access road on the Mountaintop Ranger District. Last winter’s storms undermined the road crossing of the creek, which made the road unsafe for motor vehicles.
Dart Canyon Road (4S02) near Idyllwild
Contractors plan to resurface the pavement, which will result in a temporary closure of the road. Paving work is subject to weather related delays. Access to Fern Basin and Marion Mountain Campgrounds will remain open until the normal winter campground closure takes effect.
Forest Visitors are encouraged to “Know Before You Go” and call ahead to the local Ranger Station to check on road closures and detour routes.

This is a really cool offroad trail . (Not sure if anyone here enjoys that kinda stuff though )Hikin_Jim wrote: (2N33) and the Pilot Rock Ridge Road.
Yeah, that is kind of humorous isn't it?Rumpled wrote:So, they wait until right before we hope winter storms might be showing up to start work?
Aren't they brilliant?
It's like all that money they poured into the closed sections of the ACH when there was no target date in sight for the repair of the major washout. Now they're having to repair sections of ACH that they had upgraded but were never used. Your tax dollars at work.
