20081006 Baldy with 135driver
135driver absolutely loves the ski hut trail, nearly as much as I do. We decided to go up it, as it's just so awesome. We're both huge fans of this trail. Big, big fans. Really cool trail.
We signed on so that we would be safe from objective hazards, like avalanche and flying rape-bears.
"HEY, IS THAT BALDY?!?!?!?!"
We didn't remember some information about the Ski hut, so we decided to check the internets on my new phone.
No connection. I used win and LOL to get that page up (checked the previous night).
We went up the trail, and I said hello to my favorite terrain feature. I really love this terrain feature.
On a serious note, we checked out "Piton Rock", more properly known as that bigass damn rock in the bowl that you pass along the ski hut trail. I didn't see any pitons.
Yup
Go up that little easy dihedral-ly section.
This one, damnit
On top, look at them bolts.
BOLT
Uhhhh....
Carpentry 101
Holy crap, an aid route on Baldy!!! EXTREME!
We continued up to the top.
BALDY NIPPLE
Someone has fortified our typical winter bivy spot on the Baldy-Harwood col...
WITH D-VITAMINS...
Marks left by skids on helo's? Atop Harwood.
Looking down something for the winter
Made it all the way to the notch. I didn't think I'd survive.
HOWEVER, upon reaching the notch, we were STUNNED to see that we'd have to make it down to 6500ft from the notch, which is at 1800ft.
We ascenderated the 4700ft to the bottom, uphill, down.
Space math.
Goodnight.

I think I'm ready for Lhotse now, maybe Everest over the weekend, gotta save up 25 more dollars though.
Taco, thanks for waiting for my slow ass. I know you wanted to jog the whole thing.
Maybe we could do Ski Hut 95 more times next week. It's such a forgiving, treeless trail.

im sailing to Changabang's north face tonight. pm if you want to come. but you have to bring a sleeping bag for me, i dont have one
Changabang is utter weaksauce. We did it yesterday, Cactus to Changabang, in 2 hours flat. We brought 5 portaledges just so we could carry some extra weight, as it's just flat-out cheating when we ROLL DEEP.
Tomorrow before work, I'll hit up some of the unclimbed ridges in the Mid Atlantic Rift Zone. FFUWA, yo.

I hear those ridges get pretty wet. Bring Goretex. And a really long snorkel.TacoDelRio wrote:Tomorrow before work, I'll hit up some of the unclimbed ridges in the Mid Atlantic Rift Zone. FFUWA, yo.
