Was e-mailed Thursday night by a hiking acquaintance who was doing a stairclimb race downtown on Friday. She mostly hikes with Sierra Club and they had put in a co-ed team to compete, but the organizer had jury duty so had to bail. So I guess I was the 'hired gun'.
The goal was to climb all the stairs in the U.S Bank Building:
75 floors, approximately 900 ft. This was the team:
I wasn't sure exactly how well I would do as I had already did intense cardio that day, and I hadn't done much stairclimbing lately.
Here's an 'action' shot in the stairwell. It was too hot!
I ended up finishing just under 13 min, good enough for 16th place individually. The team came in 5 th place in co-ed teams, which was pretty good considering all the teams above us had 3 men, while we had 2.
