Hiker bitten by rattlesnake

On Monday a hiker was bitten by a rattlesnake in Bear Canyon. He was located and airlifted by SAR to the hospital. Check out the story from KTLA.

Rattlesnakes need to learn to stay in their lane, they aren't allowed in Bear Canyon. In Santa Barbara they have a whole canyon that is designated for their use and a peak just off the East Fork.

I seriously despise rattlesnakes. They've evolved to get a rattler but they rarely use it until they're about to be stepped on. Dima can confirm that I almost stepped on a rattlesnake in Eaton Canyon once but it didn't rattle! Then, I was standing on one on one of Nate's birthday hikes while me and Nate took a photo. The lil shit let me step on it and didn't even budge when I stepped off of it!

Maybe I don't despise them. They just are lazy af in these mountains and don't wanna burn the calories necessary to use their rattle.

They have a whole canyon next to the East Fork too, but it mostly has bears in it. The bears also have multiple canyons, but they just have no respect

The little dude just curled up chillin' right under us.

I think that big black chungus lounging around munching white frogs at Alder Crag was one that really had it figured out though.

They used to have a trail over by Buckhorn, but humans shut it down because of frogs. Maybe rattlers would stop attacking us if only the FS reopened the trail.

But what happens to buzzing rattlesnakes? They get killed and the quiet ones survive. When I used to live and work in the San Gabriel mountains I used to say you'ed be mortified by the number of rattlesnakes you've passed that never made a sound.

I was jogging down Stone Canyon trail yesterday and I turned a corner and saw another hiker coming up. He screamed 'stop, stop" and I saw a coiled rattlesnake coming up fast in my vision. I hit the brakes and missed them by about a foot. Fortunately the rattlesnake was facing the other hiker so had no chance to get the stupid human being right behind them. The rattlesnake realized they were outnumbered and quickly uncoiled and departed the trail. Probably wouldn't have been there in the first place if the other hiker wasn't coming up but it was good fun. Also got to the top of Lukens and back in 2:40, that was pretty impressive. The campground and creek now looks like the East Fork, just gross.
