40th....
....is into the very heart of darkness. Into the heart of The Pliocene Playground.
Last year we were successful in summiting Oak Mtn, but we got turned back late in the day from serious brush from reaching this unnamed, un-trip reported(?) apparent waterfall that hi-res aerial imagery suggests has the potential to be pretty freakin' cool. I mean, check this out!!!! : Its intriguing, right?
This is the route I have in mind. Starting like we did last year on the 39th birthday, but instead of going up Towsley Peak, we just continue up the stream until we hit the falls. About a mile off-trail going along the stream. Expect wet feet, maybe not a bad idea to bring loppers. Those who want to take it easier can turn around and go back down the way we came but those who want to get a little rough-and-tumble can continue up this little ridge, connecting to where we were on my 38th birthday before completing the loop. There are some blue bits and razor-thin ridge on that portion that should generate a bit of excitement. Expect bits of class 3 scrambling and some fun with brush.
The full loop is 4.88 miles, 1400 gain. Half a day I reckon?
Just going up to the falls and back is like 4.5 miles with 250 of gain.
Has anyone ever been to this waterfall before?
