Mt Rose in the Carson Range

The Carson Range is the bit of the Sierra Nevada east of Lake Tahoe. The tallest mountain at the northern end of Lake Tahoe is 10,785 foot Mt Rose. It is visible from everywhere along the shore of Lake Tahoe, from I-80 and US-395, and especially from Reno, where it dominates the mountain-scape south of the city.

Because of the height of the mountain, the starting elevation of 8,900 feet and the 11 mile round trip trail to the top, it is similar to climbing Mt San Jacinto from the tram (up and back it is only about ten miles, but I prefer the 11 mile reverse lollipop loop). I have not yet climbed the mountain in winter, as the snow in the Carson Range is much deeper and more challenging than in SoCal.
