Post Fire (Gorman, CA)

The Post Fire started yesterday afternoon in Gorman. It's already over 12,000 acres and only 2% contained, heading toward the Pyramid Lake area.

Saw this driving back from Mt Wilson yesterday. It was the most gorgeous day in a while, marine layer broken (finally!), and I had a good outing. Get on the road home, and I see the smoke. It's been heavy breathing all day here, Northridge, south of Newhall Pass. It's also raining a bit of ash.

Looks like the fire has reached the Sespe Wilderness.

Good news, though, is that crews have kept it from jumping the freeway, and containment has increased.

Does the fact that it's a wilderness area change anything about the firefighting effort?

The caltopo fire-activity map doesn't show any hot spots anymore. I guess that means that it's burning very lightly at the moment, and now's the time to go try to squash it. Probably.

I don't know. It depends on the managers. They can do what's necessary, even though it's designated wilderness. But there tends to be less access, since they don't build roads through wilderness areas.

That matches the CalFire summary. They're saying minimal fire activity now.
