Last week I checked out Oak Springs Trail recommended by my friend Kristin. It did not disappoint! We found wildflowers along the way and some cool mushrooms which I posted under shroomies.

The weather was overcast, chilly. and a bit windy. However, I was so impressed from the minute I set foot on the trail that I forgot about how cold It was. So very lush and green with lots of Oak trees. My friends were also impressed.

AllTrails says it's 4 miles r/t but I knew that continuing on it would connect to the Yerba Buena road. My objective was to hike to the Yerba Buena high point.
I hiked there many times starting from the Gold Canyon trail at MM1.38

Anyways, hiking up to the Big Oak Tree was a plus. We took a break and checked out the views. I think this is where most people turn around so it makes sense that 4 mile r/t.

We continued to the left where the trail splits and hiked through a grove of beautiful Oak trees. Nice and shady with the stream flowing nicely.

Once you pass this area the trail becomes slightly overgrown but the trail is easy to follow. Then it opens up to some gorgeous views. It was so exhilarating and refreshing.

At the top we continued on the Yerba Buena road. By this time the sun started to heat up. We found a cool water tank to sit on and ate lunch. Again surrounded by lush green hills.

It was time to turn around because I couldn't take the heat anymore so my destination was cut short. So the plan next time is to do a carpool shuttle loop hike starting from MM 1.38 and exiting Oak Springs.

We ended up hiking 8 miles.

Great flower pics!!

I did that hike a couple years ago with my wife... I remember it was the first time I had ever really looked at Condor Peak before, and was like.... DANG I didn't know the western San Gabes had peaks like that! We turned around just a little before you did. Nice views of the Christian Camp / Cecil B DeMille's old ranch from that trail, too.

Definitely some nice groups of oak trees. Nice place for a picnic too!
