In this interview Dr. Drew makes a couple claims. First, that wildfires are a problem because we've stopped doing forest management, which I think is partially true. It's not the entire answer though. Second, Drew claims that the Gabes aren't covered with firebreaks anymore because they interfere with the migration of a mouse. Anyone know what that's about? I never heard that claim before.
I've always assumed that we don't do firebreaks any more is because now we use helicopters and fire retardant. It's a lot of money to support firebreak maintenance.
