1:14 pm His car is not at Milmada parking. Heading up ACH.

1:16 Not at parking for Gould Mesa.

2:33 update, Separately Jason and I have gone up and down the ACH to Redbox and up to Wilson. No sign of his car at any turnout or trailhead. I checked all roads around Wilson, even the open service roads. Now I'm checking the Angeles Forest Highway and Big Tujunga Roads.

3:31 I went up AFH to Mt. Emma Rd to Pearblossom, now circling back on AFH.

Its maybe a long shot but just going on information that is available to us, Colin was writing about those other mystery "dry lakes" throughout the San Gabriels that he knew of.

• Devil's Canyon at the toe of the ridge to West Twin
• Graveyard Canyon at the start of what eventually leads up to the Hawkins ridge systems
• Brown's Flat which is in the vicinity of Brindle Mt, you might get there from a couple different trailheads.

5:25 update, I drove a giant loop looking for his car. After checking ACH, I took AFH to Mt. Emma, Pearblossom, back up AFH to Aliso Cyn. I drove down Aliso Cyn to the Monument boundary and back up to AFH to Big Tujunga Cyn Rd. I checked all turnouts, campgrounds, trailheads, picnic areas and paved side roads. No sign of his car.

Taking a break in Sunland.

Does he have / can he get access to the Rincon gates? Ask ranger if he got the 'keys' recently?

The thread is unlocked. Thank you, everyone, for your comments and for searching the roads and trailheads. I've talked with Sierra Madre SAR and given them info and ideas. They are also talking with the family. SAR is searching for him now. It's probably best not to go looking yourself. Not only is the area difficult and dangerous to hike right now, especially with the heat, but more human traffic could hinder the trackers' efforts.

Forgive me for the late post.
I found out Colin was missing while hiking Mt Baldy yesterday. My friend and I searched for his car and also checked out Ice House trailhead.
I'm relieved his car was found and hope that the outcome is a positive one.

South Pasadena has issued a bulletin for Colin. I'm hoping he found water and is awaiting help.

Search and rescue is asking:

Any idea if Colin carried anything (camera, binoculars) with a strap of the brand "Senix"?

Could Colin be in the clamshell canyon area, which is below the main trail nearest where he left his car? He might be interested in old cabin sites.

It's possible, but we have strong evidence that points elsewhere. I believe SAR has been pursuing many ideas, including that he dropped below the main path.

Hi, everyone, friend of Colin here. Per a 2016 post -- yep, I know, very old -- he was interested in Triplet Rocks:
"Still curious about the area and wanting to explore possible alternatives to reaching triplet rocks" .
He did it in consecutive years and ran into pot growing operations up there and the actual growers one year.

As a periodic quest of his, is there a chance he did it again?

Would he ever have started where he did in Monrovia to get there?

It seems somewhere on the 39 would be the wiser entry point. Are some trailheads open somewhere on the 39? The Website says the West Fork Road bikeway is closed.

Perhaps due to that, or if he particularly wanted an approach from the west, could he start where he did? It seems this is not a possibility based on where we know he entered. But checking with you-all. e.g. circuitously from Monrovia via Cogswell Dam or branch off somewhere along the Rincon Shortcut OHV Trail.

Just wanted to run this theory past the forum, who are more expert.

This is the post I'm referring to and it links to his earlier post:

Thanks for the idea. It seems unlikely to me because it would make what would already be a challenging trip much more challenging:

- Much longer-than-usual approach

- In the heat

- On a new, untried route

It sounds like SAR has clues about where to look, but they haven't found a trace of him. So who knows. To get to the Triplets, he would have had to cross Monrovia ridge to drop into the West Fork, cross that, and climb up something to get to the ridgeline the Triplets are on. That would be a BIG day.
