On St. Patrick's Day, I met my hiking crew at the 49 Palms Oasis trail.
The plan was to hike beyond the palms through the canyon over the ridge making it a loop hike back to the cars.
Well the rock scrambling was non stop with annoying cat claws that were unavoidable throughout the canyon. I got scratched up quite a bit and I got a nasty bump on my shin.
Anyways, the array of colorful rock formations kept my mind off the unrelenting rock scrambling.
We were close to the Ridgeline when 3 of us decided to call it quits. We sat on top of a cool dry waterfall with amazing views below and ate our lunch.
Meanwhile our leader who was a very strong hiker went ahead to the top the ridge as we waited for his return.
The canyon had a few caves along the way and huge pools.
Red Barrel cactus was everywhere.
It was a very beautiful hike but exhausting.
I would do it again with an earlier start time.
