Hikers in Joshua Tree National Park discovered a body thought to be that of a man who was reported missing in the park 12 years ago. Superintendent David Smith told Z107.7 News that hikers notified rangers that suspected human remains were found in the area of the “Panorama” and “Burro” trails near the Joshua Tree entrance in the park Tuesday evening. Park investigators and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded and confirmed the remains were that of a human. A wallet was found with the remains with the name of Bill Ewasko, a Georgia man who had been reported missing June 24, 2010. Ewasko was 66 when he went missing in the park. At that time an extensive search by Sheriff’s and Park search teams had not located him. An investigation is ongoing by the Sheriff’s Homicide Division and positive ID has not yet been made by the County Coroner. Smith said, “We are grateful for visitors who keep their eyes and ears open in the park and notify us of anything that seems out of place”.

Hmm. Seems his remains were found near the Panorama Loop trail. But his car was originally found at the Juniper Flats trailhead. That's quite a distance away.
