Hello everyone,
I’m facing an issue with my customer email list. I’ve been running a Shopify store for about two years, but I only recently started focusing on email marketing—about a month ago. My goal is to grow my fanbase and better connect with my customers.
Currently, I have over 52,000 customer emails, with about 14,000 subscribed to my email list. I recently started using Brevo for email marketing campaigns. Unfortunately, my first campaigns were suspended, reportedly due to the presence of spam traps and a low click-through rate (CTR).
I understand the low CTR might be because I haven’t engaged consistently with my audience in the past. I’m working on improving that by sending clean, simple updates, mostly when I release new products.
However, after just three campaigns, Brevo has suspended my account, asking me to clean my email list—removing fake, invalid, or outdated email addresses.
My question is:
What’s the best way to clean my email list?
Should I do it manually, inside Shopify, or use a third-party service?
Are there any reliable online tools or tutorials you would recommend?
Thanks a lot for your help and advice!

Hi there,
With the low CTR it could be that the subject line or email did not contain the right message that your subscribers expected.
You are right it could be because subscribers have not engaged with your brand in a while, but you can also send an email saying that you are updating information and give people an option to unsubscribe or continue. Then from there you can send clean the list as per the results.
verify the emails through 3 party provider and keep your list clean.

Your best bet is to use a third-party tool to clean your email list.
Maintaining good email hygiene is essential if you want your campaigns to reach real, engaged users. Over time, email lists collect invalid, fake, or inactive addresses—which can trigger spam traps, lower your deliverability, and get you suspended from platforms like Brevo.
Cleaning your list helps improve your sender reputation, boost open rates, and avoid getting flagged by spam filters. It’s not just a one-time thing either—regular list maintenance is key for long-term success in email marketing.
