Poisonous surprise!

I saw dozens of these guys marching around Blue Ridge Rd last night. Size is about 6cm x 3cm. I've seen a couple other varieties of (much) smaller ones, so this came as a bit of a shock.

Yuck. I was there yesterday too, during the day on bikes. Not interested in encountering that thing.

I have them in my yard in the Santa Monica Mts. Apparently the species here are not poisonous. I don't know about the one pictured in this thread, but typically California scorpions west of the deserts might have a toxic sting, but are not dangerous. (of course one could be allergic to the toxin)
