We hiked Baldy up the Ski Hut trail and down the Devil's Backbone yesterday. We passed 6 or 8 two person crews each carrying roofing panels to the Ski Hut.
The plywood is now covered with something black (tar paper?). It was unusually humid, but that made for a lot of clouds. Here is picture of Mt. Harwood:
I was on Cucamonga yesterday and after my hike as I was getting onto the freeway (about 1:00pm) I looked back and there was a massive thunderhead right over the top of Baldy.
We reached Baldy's summit at 1:30 PM and stayed for half an hour. It was in full sun the whole time we were there.
There was a big cloud to the northwest that I kept hoping would give us some shade, but no luck. Dawson and Pine were in deep shadow.
You can get big clouds over Baldy that never develop far enough to storm.
Here is a picture of Baldy made from Telegraph Peak in 2005. It may have looked like this yesterday from a distance.
