At various stops in West Virginia I had seen postcards of Blackwater Falls and thought it would be worth a slight detour. It's another main attraction in the Alleghenies. At the parking lot, there's a gift shop and snack bar. I can recommend the root beer float.

The short trail is a raised boardwalk with many steps dropping down through the forest to various viewing platforms.

I took the full tour and checked out the closest viewing spots.

I convinced myself that the falls at low-flow are prettier than at high-flow, because less of the rocks are covered. But I'm sure my opinion would change if I ever see them at high-flow.

We visited the falls in 2010 and the flow was a little higher.
