The Wilderness Park was closed for a few days to allow some Fire Department training, which of course drew people up to Potato Mountain on Wednesday. Despite the 90-plus forecast I was surprised to see more than a dozen cars in the parking areas, but for some reason I didn't see that many people on the trail. This time I just went up and down the fire road, not messing with the 'secret' trail or the ridge. I was trying to conserve water, since I only had a 16-ounce bottle and a few Lifesavers with me. I emptied the bottle with my last sip as I reached the Ranger before driving home, fortunately I live close so it wasn't too long before getting some icy cold liquid.
Anyway, the flowers are really blooming here, the scent was so powerful at times that I felt like Dorothy in the poppy fields. Some of the bushes have encroached on the roadway so much that it's only single track through them right now. It's still a great time to visit the local hills. AllTrails calculated my day at 4.8 miles with 1168 feet of elevation gain. I did not see Taco's balls on top either.
