Does anyone have any up-to-date info on the condition of the roads in and out of Idyllwild? Apparently there are multiple roads that have had stretches destroyed by rainfall, and it may take a long time to fix them...?

Yes, the typical routes (Highway 243 from Banning and the west side of Highway 74 from Hemet) will be closed for at least four months: https://www.desertsun.com/story/news/tr ... 144278002/

However, there are two alternate routes open: https://www.desertsun.com/story/weather ... 194743002/

Highway 79 from Temecula to the 371 through Anza will get you there. Or you can take Highway 74 from Palm Desert. Google maps has the current closures and will show you the fastest alternate if you get directions.

As a bonus, the alternate route through Anza Valley was looking really beautiful this weekend after the spring rains.

The Desert Sun article was from March 12, and says that "traffic officials now expect both roads to be closed through at least June." I talked to a local, and she said the highway was washed out in 40 different places, and they expected repairs to go until roughly June or July.

@nelange, is the four months based on the Desert Sun article? Four months starting from now, in mid-April, would be August.

Yes, based on the article. June or July as you heard.
