I've been eyeballing Brown Mountain from its surrounding peaks for years but haven't gotten around to it until today.

I wasn't up for doing the 12-mile loop from Millard Canyon, so I hit it from Eaton Saddle (8.5 miles). There were quite a few people on Mt. Lowe Rd., but I didn't come across anyone past that point. It was peaceful. And the weather was great too.

Distance: 8 miles
Elevation gain: 2,073 feet
Total time: 3:38:28
Recording: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recor ... 4-31-pm--6

Notes:

- I started my recording a little late (at Markham Saddle), so the numbers above should be a little higher.

- Mt. Lowe Rd. has a lot of rocks on it, which isn't surprising given the winter we've had.

- The connector trail from Mt. Lowe Rd. to Tom Sloan Saddle was in great shape. It didn't expect that.

- As expected, the use trail along the ridge from Tom Sloan Saddle to Brown Mountain was steep, narrow, and overgrown in parts. It was slow moving, but enjoyable. I didn't lose the trail on the way to the summit, but I got off track a couple times on the way back. The trail splinters in a few spots.

- There was a lot of action on the 2 today (motorcycle accident + head-on collision).

- I look forward to doing the loop some time. I've heard that the section from the summit to Brown Mountain Rd. is kinda gnarly.

Haha. It’s one helluva pile. You’d think you were on a much more important peak.
