i woke up at 4am very excited and ready to go...i love hiking

Image

arrived at the trailhead at 515 am and started hiking by 530.
made it to the ski hut by around 715 or so...

Image

i have never been up here before and it was love at first sight
the ski hut area is beautiful..

Image

looking up baldy bowl made me excited.i couldnt wait to explore up there
but first i had to get rid of a few pounds

Image

one of the highlights of my trip was the view from the outhouse

Image

feeling lighter and refreshed i continue my journey..what a great trail
i remember taco del rio talking about good camp spots in the area so
im keeping an eye out...

Image

baldy bowl must be awesome in winter

Image

up up and up i go..i guess working out in the gym is paying off
this trail wasnt as hard as i thought it would be..or maybe the views
are distracting me from the pain..but i dont feel bad..i could go on all day

Image

when you reach the top of the ridge from the ski hut there are some great camp sites..i cant wait to beup here at night.

Image

i dont even care about reaching the top.im just happy being where im at

Image

all good things must come to an end..looks like im almost there

Image

took me 31 years to make it up..since i was a lil kid i been looking up
towards the summit...today is a great day.

Image

i had the summit all to myself for about 7 whole minutes
i arrived at 9am..but my watch read 420 !!!!!...blaze it

Image

next time im going down the backbone..going down the ski hut trail
was harder than going up.

Image

the fun part of going down was watching the hikers who started later
coming up..it was hot and they were all suffering..all 200 people i seen
looked miserably happy..im glad i started early

Image

since it was only 11am and its fathers day and its hot as hell
im going to hit my second favorite spot

Image

life is good

Congrats on making the summit!! You are right. The Ski Hut trail downhill is rough on the knees. We always hike down the backbone. Take $8 for the ski lift and ride it down to the parking lot.

YES! THAT'S WHAT I DO! AND ASK THE GUY THAT RUNS THE CHAIRS IF HIS NAME IS NICK.
I bet you $100.00 that he responds with "ALL DAY LONG!"

Wow, blazing at over 10,000'. Try it on Whitney sometime.

Actually, I wonder how many people on this forum know why your watch read, "420".

Nods.

Great job on reaching the top of our little part of the world. I agree with RichardK...take the Devils Backbone over to the ski lift and ride it down...a real knee saver.

I will enter this number on my microsoft excel and divide it by the two 5s according to the secret AllanK method and figure it out. Armed with this new program I can do anything! Thanks AllanK!

Ski lift tips

1. Remove backpack and place on ski lift seat next to you.

2. Stow hiking poles in backpack.

Other tips?

Ski lift good if person is broken. Person not broken? Walk!
