Rode my mtn bike to Mt Gleason today Sunday 2/15/2015

I got off the trailhead and started the grind up from Mill Crk Summit and encountered 3 PCT hikers going to Campo
I also had a forest service patrol out there too!
I've been thinking of riding from Mill Creek or Three Points to either Sand Cyn & Placerita Cyn Rd or Newhall Ave by way of Bear Divide/Los Pintos
It'd be a long day

Cool.
I've been thinking about something similar although as an overnight hike. Mill Creek summit along the PCT to North Fork and out Indian Canyon to Soledad Canyon Rd.
I assume there is no water along that entire stretch, including at North Fork or Messenger Flats, but if that is inaccurate, I'd be happy to know that.

There could be water @ North Fork Station depending on when you go.Uncle Rico wrote: ↑I assume there is no water along that entire stretch, including at North Fork or Messenger Flats, but if that is inaccurate, I'd be happy to know that.
I don't know the status of the water at Messenger Flat. It needs electricity to run the pump and the water line from the spring/well has to be in working order
The California Trail Users Coalition mans north fork station. What the schedule is and what the status the water there is unknown

This maybe of some help, I can't access this from work.
The hikers I encountered where hiking on the road "to stay out of the Poodle Dog"
I passed another "hiker" with a sack on his shoulder on the same last 2½ miles to MCS as I encountered the other 3 and the FS patrol truck

Ugh. Was hoping PDB would be somewhat manageable after all these years. The hikers I encountered where hiking on the road "to stay out of the Poodle Dog"
Thx for the water info and links.

There's usually water at Quail Spring (top of Indian Cyn Rd). Was there a couple months back, before we had all the rain, and it was a trickle, maybe 1/2 l per minute?
You might consider doing a MetroLink shuttle. Take train to Vincent Grade station, go over Gleason and ride Santa Clara Div to wherever you wish to exit. I've done Mendenhall this way, and it was a very...um...satisfying day.
EDIT re water: I once found water in a pipe at Lightning Point camp. Just enough there for my filter hose to reach. Also, occasionally you can snake a filter hose under the cover plate on the top of a cistern. I did this at the Mt. Lowe Railway after coming up Bear Cyn.
