Hildreth Peak from Hwy 33

Hildreth can be found way out in the middle of the Dick Smith Wilderness, Los Padres NF. This day went at 29.6mi and 8100ft of gain in 11:05hrs. For TR click:

I did this hike at night circa 2006 but we got the key to the gate and started at the jeep track. I remember hardly any part of the hike as we did it from 10PM-5AM and then I still went to work that day. I do remember it was bloody cold and when I signed in my signature was illegible because my hands were shivering. I also remember the up and down roller coaster in and out. In those days this was the primary route to the peak.

Yeah, it used to be that the road from Hwy 33 to 3 Sisters and beyond was open on a seasonal basis. The peak was traditionally done from the 3 Sisters. No more. That road hasn't been open to motor vehicles for a number of years. These closures have been happening a lot in the Los Padres. -DS
