Good day up Big Tujunga on Sunday. Parked at westbound mile marker 4.50 and took the south route up. The trail is in surprisingly good shape most of the way, it has definitely seen some recent maintenance, but high up as you approach the south face of Fox it drops away in some pretty inconvenient spots, forcing you to tip toe across a couple significant drops.

As for the trail itself, it's a long one, just under 16 miles total as you climb up the divide between Vogel and Fusier Canyons. Overall, the trail is very gently graded, almost annoyingly so as it seems to meander about quite a bit with long shallow switchbacks, often headed in what feels like the wrong direction. Great views the entire way though, and awesome views from both peaks. Very little shade, bring a hat.

Weather was perfect, didn't see a single other person. Thanks, football! Not much else to say, highly recommend this route if you want to get away from the crowds in the eastern SGs and the recovery from the fire is encouraging to see. Although it's not "the same", there's plenty of healthy growth and a good amount of scat indicating things are coming along quite well.

It's a really nice hike, just long. It looks greener than when I was there in 2012, or maybe it is just your superior camera. Is there still a tree down over the trail before Fox?

Yeah it's looking pretty good up there, despite these last few "winters" we've had... Your blog post was the only post-fire trip report I'd read, it was pretty helpful, especially keeping an eye out to avoid the "oops" part, so thanks for that  And yeah, the tree you have a picture of is still there, as well as a couple others blocking the trail. Pretty easy to get around them, though.
