Well, the ticks are back. Yay!!

I hiked a few trails this weekend. Ahmanson Ranch (Las Virgenes Canyon) has great packed dirt for mountain biking and lots of ticks! And some weird people digging a huge hole in the ground, which I hope is not a grave site.

Upper Rustic Canyon in the Santa Monicas has a couple of sites of fresh deer remains. Might be coyotes, but I wouldn't hike solo there for a while if I were me.

Thought I would get up to higher country this weekend, but I didn't so I don't know what the snow and ice situation is.

Ack! I thought tick season was generally February-March, though I've read reports of tick problems in December in the desert.

Had a tick on my hand near Crystal Lake yesterday while climbing on granite, not in the weeds. Surprised.

I was hoping that maybe all the ticks would get frozen and die with the cold weather we've had of late. I guess that's not happening. Apparently, the nasty blood-sucking little bastards are impervious to the cold.
