School me on getting to Royal Gorge. According to Jerry Schad this a 20 mile bushwacking kind of trip.
In other reports I read about scaling a rock face with a rotten rope.
Then in others it can apparently be easily reached from Switzer Falls parking lot?
What's the best way to go about it?
Does anyone have a good route outlined on a simple map or GPS?

Royal Pain was our name for this June 9th 2005
The trail near oakwild to paul little is no mas
You'll have to descend the dam on a use trail on the east side of the canyon

You could ask these guys: http://culvercity.patch.com/groups/poli ... nal-forest
I think it's a beautiful canyon, but it's canyon walking with no trail for a few miles. Plus since the fire I'm sure there are a lot of logjams and debris, and lots of weedy overgrowth. (Canyon used to be shaded by old alder trees and sycamores, but they're all mostly dead now).
Have not been there this year though. All I can say is it won't be easy.

We started at 7:34am and exited to Gould Mesa at 5:54pm
The date I gave was wrong but rather 11/18/2006
As Cougarmagic sez the conditions have changed dramatically since the fire log jams, brush etc will dog you.
As I recall I wanted to exit up the "Twin Cyn" route to Angeles Crest Highway if I did it again.
I have no Idea what that looks like these days but the turnout on the highway has been blocked

Thanks for your input. It seems like a tough place to reach. It may have to wait.
