Super interesting shreddy. I had no idea that the "Brown" in Brown Mountain was THE John Brown. As a transplant, lots of local history I obviously don't know. Thanks for posting.

The marker was probably rolled into the ravine by a very vocal and irate nearby property owner who didn't like people crossing his land to get to the grave site. This was never proven, but it happened right after the decision came down that the public had a "historical easement" and that but could not keep people off the trail.

Hey thanks for the hot tip shreddy. Looks like my local library has a copy of this book so I'm going to stop by and grab it today.
